This Thanksgiving, we’ll be feasting with an amazing family. Lovers of good food, great wine, and awesome beer, Liz and Sean are always excited to master the perfect pizza, homemade wine, or home-brewed beer. (I think you can understand my excitement to share in the biggest food-eating day of the year with them!)
To thank them for feeding me (and my always-eating, cyclist-husband – and my oddly-voracious toddler), I decided to make them a harvest beer bread mix set. With harvesty notes of nutmeg, clove, and cinnamon, this mix will give your weary hostess a tasty break from hard work in the kitchen.
To make this set, mix the following ingredients and pack into an airtight coffee bag (from container store):
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp clove
Stick on a pretty label, with the following instructions:
preheat oven to 375F.
stir together mix and beer just until moistened.
transfer to greased 9×5 baking pan.
bake 50 minutes.
(I must admit, I had to ask the advice of Liz and Sean on this recipe – my first batch turned out rather chewy, and they let me know that it’s important to not overmix the dough, which I definitely did.)
Snuggle the bread mix and your favorite 12oz beer into a basket with excelsior, and give (with a big thank you hug of course) to your sweet host or hostess.
